“The Society’s mission has always been about serving the needs of others, but more importantly meeting people where they are,” says Steve Cigich, President. “Historically, being family and celebrating the Lord’s Day meant attending church followed by visiting with family and friends. Now, more and more families are finding Sunday family time means catching-up on the weekly shopping.”
“In addition to benefiting SVDP thrift store customers, this move fits with SVDP’s desire to increase wages for its workers while maintaining and expanding ministries,” states Bill James, Director of Stores. “We ask a lot of our workers and wish to reward them for their productivity. Sunday sales will become part of a larger strategy to make this happen.”
St. Vincent de Paul of Waukesha County is part of a worldwide network of charity and is a part of the Vincentian Family consisting of over 2 million people worldwide. Inspired by Gospel values, SVDP is a catholic lay organization whose members, known as Vincentians, come from every ethnic and cultural background, age group and economic level. Its mission includes spiritual growth through the one-on-one service to others. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction among those served, because, in them Vincentians see the face of Christ.
