The Waukesha & Pewaukee Convention and Visitors Bureau (WPCVB) is gearing up to host the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association’s (NCTTA) National Championships April 9- 11. Skilled table tennis players from all over the US are looking forward to this championship tournament. The NCTTA Championships will include three days of competition for males and females competing for singles, doubles and team titles with over 250 athletes from 30 colleges and universities nationwide.
Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) has won nearly all of the national championships in table tennis in the three categories since 2002, totaling 38 out of a possible 52 collegiate titles. With all these accolades, TWU is producing a documentary which will include this event on these players’ successes. Their challenger this year will be Lindenwood University (LU), winner of the 2009 NCTTA’s fall competition. Both TWU and LU recruit top players offering scholarships for table tennis, competing with the 140 colleges nationwide have table tennis teams.
Mark your calendars for April 9-11 at Center Court Sports Complex to view not only some exceptional table tennis games, but also learn more about the sport through table tennis clinics and demonstrations. Challenge mom and dad to a game after learning a few tricks of the trade. Practice by taking on the table tennis robot, honing your skill! Participants will all have the chance to win one of the many door prizes given away throughout the event.
This is the first national sporting event bid submitted and won by the Waukesha & Pewaukee CVB. With state and regional sporting events hosted much more commonly, the CVB recognizes these events generate increased promotion of our area. In addition, with players and coaches staying at the host hotel and enjoying local eateries during their non competition time, the events also positively impact the local economy. “With the continued support of local sports teams and clubs, we look forward to bringing more national events into our communities” said Matthew Olson, Sports Sales Manager at the Waukesha & Pewaukee CVB.
Local support for this event is provided by the Shorewood Table Tennis Club. Club president, Linda Leaf, has been instrumental in the table tennis community, facilitating the third annual fall Badger Open, slated to occur in Waukesha on September 18th and 19th, 2010.
The Convention and Visitors Bureau is dedicated to the promotion of Waukesha & Pewaukee, WI, as a business and leisure destination. The allure of the area has been publicized by being chosen to host ABC’s Good Morning America, named “Best Affordable Suburb” in the US – Business Week and named America’s 8th “Best Place to Raise a Family” – Forbes Magazine.
