County museum receives Farm Bureau donation
The Waukesha County Museum has received a $1,000 donation from members of the Waukesha County Farm Bureau.
The Waukesha County Farm Bureau Board of Directors approved the donation to help promote the local museum and to help serve Waukesha County residents. In exchange for the donation, all Waukesha County Farm Bureau members receive free admission to the museum in 2014.
"We are happy to be able to help the community and offer free admission to Farm Bureau members who are interested in visiting the Waukesha County Museum," said Lloyd Williams, Waukesha County Farm Bureau President.
Hospital offers free skin cancer screenings
ProHealth Care will sponsor free skin cancer screenings this month.
The screenings will take place at Waukesha Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, May 14, from 6-8:30 p.m.
Appointments are required and can be made by calling (262) 928-2745.
Drug collection nets more than three tons
Waukesha County residents dropped off 6,416 pounds of medication, collectively, at the eight location sites in four hours during the Waukesha County Drug Free Communities Coalition's Prescription Drug Collection on April 26.
Collection drop-off sites included Brookfield, Menomonee Falls, Mukwonago, Muskego, New Berlin, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee and Waukesha.
The program seeks to reduce prescription drug abuse and accidental poisonings in Waukesha County, help protect local waterways and create awareness of the dangers of prescription drug abuse.
Since the program began in 2009, more than 30,000 pounds of medication has been collected and properly disposed.
The drugs were collected under the supervision of local police and the Waukesha County Metro Drug Enforcement Unit. The drugs will be escorted by law enforcement to an incinerator where they will be properly destroyed.

Carroll announces keynote speaker
The Rev. Deborah Block will be the keynote speaker for its Carroll University's commencement ceremony Sunday, May 11.
Block is a 1974 Carroll graduate and an ordained minister who now serves as the pastor and head of staff at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Milwaukee.
Block began her ordained ministry in 1978. She continued her education and received a master's degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 1977, and a doctorate from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago in 1989.
Currently, she is a member of the Carroll University Board of Trustees, and chairs the board of trustees of McCormick Seminary. She has written for lectionary commentary series.
Both of her parents graduated from Carroll College in 1950-51, and her brother is an alum who graduated in 1976.
New Windy Hill Review Out at UW-Waukesha
The 2014 edition of The Windy Hill Review, the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha's literary magazine, was released April 30 in the college's library.
The Windy Hill Review, published by the UW-Waukesha Literary Club, features the artwork, poetry, and stories of students and local writers and artists and is a free publication.
This year's magazine features work from Samantha Below, Paul Klipstein, Taylor Freeman, Courtney Johnson, Meghan Henderson, Hannah Kearney, Kayla Naus, Mollie Roraff, Kelley Kloke, Hannah Jonas, Karen Replogle, Seth Westenberg, Crystal Sorrel, Anna Sendelbach, Becky Witt, Andy Schoos, Carissa Rohde, Patricia Foldvary, Mike Jakubowski, Codey Lembck, and Kaelie Blaeske.
The editors were Below, Cody Bober, Seth Gantz, Lane Luxem, Jacob Melin, Klipstein, Reese Slobodianuk, Jamie Lynne Watkins and Jesse Zellmer. Jules Busshardt, Jordan Dyke, Ellie Froschmayer, Chrystal Kingstand, Tony Lia, Rachel Merkel, Kathrine Yets and Casey Colloton served as associate editors. The cover was designed by Drew Blanchard, and Kearney provided the front cover artwork.
Faculty members Greg Ahrenhoerster, Andrea Lochen and Drew Blanchard served as advisors for the magazine, and Barbara Reinhart and Jeff Noska were art consultants.
County Farm Bureau offers scholarships
The Waukesha County Farm Bureau is offering four scholarships to high school seniors or students already enrolled in higher education.
The Waukesha County Farm Bureau Board of Directors are offering scholarships for students enrolled in any accredited technical school or university for continuing education in agriculture or an agriculture-related field. The scholarship is $500 per student, per school year, and will be available to students in any year of their education. Past recipients may apply again. A Farm Bureau membership is encouraged but not mandatory.
