Farmers market vouchers
available for county seniors
The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Waukesha County is administrating the Senior Farmer's Market Voucher Nutrition Program for Waukesha County.
Seniors must be 60 years of age or older and will need to verify that their monthly income is at or below 185 percent of the federal poverty guideline.
Vouchers are disbursed on a first-come first-served basis and are limited to one pack of vouchers per household. This program will provide seniors with $25 worth of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs.
Vouchers will be distributed 1 to 3 p.m. June 10 and 18, at the Waukesha Food Pantry, 1301 Sentry Drive, Waukesha (542-5300). Call (262) 548-7848 for additional information on disbursement dates, times and locations.
Vouchers may also be obtained 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays at the ADRC Office, Human Services Center, 514 Riverview Ave., Waukesha.
WDA gives grant
to county dental clinic
The Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation has given a $3,250 grant to Waukesha County Community Dental Clinic.
The clinic, 210 NW Barstow St., Suite 305, Waukesha, will purchase treatment supplies and healthy snacks for its Give Kids a Smile Day in February.
Health department earns
Certificate of Excellence
The Waukesha County Health & Human Services Department has been recognized for meeting all performance standards in the administration of the Wisconsin Shares child care subsidy program.
A Certificate of Excellence was presented to Waukesha County during the annual conference of the Wisconsin County Human Services Association in Elkhart Lake.
Waukesha County earned the certificate of excellence by maintaining short phone call wait times and improving document processing for parents in need of child care services. The county agency also met the new standards set by DCF for a high level of accuracy in eligibility processing.
The new performance standards were put in place in 2013 in consultation between the Department of Children and Families and the Wisconsin County Human Services Association.

Salvation Army collects
dimes for mission
The Salvation Army in Waukesha, along with units throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, will collect dimes through Thursday, July 10, as part of an India mission campaign.
The collection of 'the least coin' — a reference to the coin's relatively small size — will be presented at the Salvation Army Pilgrimage/Retreat on Friday, July 11.
So all units are encouraging the public to set aside their dimes and then deliver them to Salvation Army locations between July 6 and July 10, or earlier.
Safe Babies welcomes
new team members
Waukesha-based Safe Babies Healthy Families has welcomed three new team members to its team: Kelsey DeMarais, Charlene Horner and Margaret Sullivan.
DeMarais has assumed the role of marketing coordinator. She will provide leadership in website management, social media and general marketing initiatives as well as assist in coordination of events and administrative duties. DeMarais previously worked as the marketing communications manager for the Waukesha County Business Alliance.
Horner is the grant writer/communications coordinator. She will lead the creation and submittal of grant requests, as well as conduct mission-specific research and coordinate internal funding communications. Horner previously worked for the Women's Resource Center at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Sullivan fills the newly created position of volunteer coordinator. She will oversee volunteer recruitment, supervision and coordination of activities. Prior to joining Safe Babies Healthy Families Sullivan worked as a Community Educator with Parent's Place.
Waukesha County beaches
open for season
Waukesha County Park System's six beaches, including at Minooka Park in Waukesha, opened for the season on May 31.
Minooka Park, 1927 E. Sunset Drive, features a four-acre pond with a beach house. Beach hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, with lifeguards on duty.
Park entrance fees are $4 daily, which includes beach use. Annual park entrance stickers are available for $28 for county residents, $38 for nonresidents and $14 for seniors.
