Open auditions for prospective new members of Waukesha Choral Union (WCU) will be held Monday evening, Aug, 25, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Road.

The WCU 2014-15 season, with concerts in October, December, March and May, will include performances of a wide range of music under the theme 'The World Sings.' Concerts include songs celebrating global cultures, holiday fare, Handel's 'Messiah' and music of Broadway and opera.
Waukesha Choral Union last year celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Carroll will launch
Scholars for Life in fall
Carroll University is launching its new Scholars For Life seminars, a lifelong learning program, in August.
The program will feature three seminars focused on music, theater and photography. Each seminar is three days, from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 25-27, on Carroll University's main campus. The $90 seminar fee includes lunch and parking.
'The Music and Times of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven,' will be taught by Mark Aamot at Main Hall. Aamot is Carroll University's professor emeritus. The seminar will explore the life and times of three of the greatest composters of the western world.
'Shakespeare: A Writer Not For An Age But For All Time,' will be taught by John Garrison at Main Hall. Garrison is the assistant professor of English at Carroll University. The theater seminar will study a selection of Shakespeare's work that spans his career.
The digital photography seminar titled, 'Creating Better Photographs: Learning to Use Your Digital Camera,' will be taught by Phillip Krejcarek at the Humphrey Art Center. Krejcarek is a professor of art and chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Carroll University. The focus of this seminar is on using digital cameras as a tool for creativity and self-expression.
Literacy Council looking for volunteer tutors
Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha (LCGW) will be organizing its annual 90 Tutors in 90 Days campaign.
LCGW volunteers are needed to work with our students in improving their reading, writing, math and English speaking skills.
LCGW will be hosting the following prospective tutor informational meetings:
· Monday, Sept. 8: 5:30-6:30 p.m. — Starbucks, 1390 Capitol Drive, Pewaukee.
· Thursday, Sept. 11: 1-2 p.m. — Café De Arts, 136 E. St Paul Ave., Waukesha.
· Monday, Sept. 15, 5:30-6:30 p.m. — Starbucks, 21481 East Highway 18, Waukesha.

Walk MS Waukesha
set for Sept. 14
Walk MS Waukesha will be held on Sept. 14 at Frame Park, 1240 Frame Park Drive, Waukesha.
More than 500 participants are expected to come out and help raise the goal of $53,000, which will support direct services for the more than 11,000 children, women and men in Wisconsin diagnosed with MS and their families, as well as MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system.
People can participate in Walk MS individually or as a team. Volunteers are also needed.
Walk MS Waukesha benefits the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Check-in for the walk begins at 9 a.m. with the walk at 10 a.m.

Sheriff's department offers
concealed carry class
The Waukesha County Sheriff Department's firearms training unit will offer a concealed carry weapon (CCW) class at 6 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 24, at the department, 515 W. Moreland Blvd, Waukesha.
The class, taught by department firearms instructors, is 41/2 hours long and will follow the Wisconsin Department of Justice CCW curriculum.
Topics include: Firearms safety, safe carry considerations, legal implications of carrying a concealed firearm, and CCW licensing in Wisconsin.
Attendees who successfully complete the class will meet the training requirement to apply for a Wisconsin CCW permit.
Cost is $50. Space is limited. Registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 19. To register for the class, contact Dineen Herink at (262) 548-7126.
Classic Cars meet
returns to Gastaus
The free Wednesday Night Classic Cars returns to the parking lot at Weissgerber's Gasthaus, at Grandview and Silvernail, Waukesha.
Anyone is invited to participate. Starting at 5 p.m., the rumble of hotrods from the '50s and '60s roll into position, next to elegant, classy collector cars once driven by the rich and famous.
Spotless engines, polished chrome, new paint and beautifully detailed interiors bring together collectors and the curious public to walk through memory lane and share stories and experiences of the Golden Years of automobiles.
The setting is festive, lively and fun, with live musical groups performing every Wednesday from the festival stage on the grounds.
Food and beverages are offered with a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, brats, beer and soda.
