MPTV broadcast features Waukesha students

The Tommy Awards were held at the Overture Center in Madison in June. The awards honor and celebrate excellence in musical theater production among high school students.

The ceremony features performances and production numbers from award winners in several categories including Waukesha West High School senior Austin Merschdorf who was awarded Outstanding Lead Performer in his performance in the school's production of 'Disney's Beauty and the Beast,' and Merschdorf performed a solo excerpt from 'If I Can't Love Her' from the musical.

The Overture Center for the Arts' Tommy Awards will be re-broadcast at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 on MPTV 36.1 HD.

All invited to Education Foundation celebration

The Waukesha Education Foundation presents its Celebration of Excellence on Sunday, Nov. 3 at the Waukesha North Fieldhouse. The event is free and open to all; desserts and beverages will be served. A reception is from 2 to 5 p.m. with recognition and awards at 3:30 p.m.

Foundation grant recipients will showcase student projects and activities. Awards will be presented by Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel. The Lifetime Excellence in Education award will be presented to Bonnie Schlais and Mark Helgert. Community Partner in Education is Guitartown; Corporate Partner in Education is General Electric Company; and a special appearance and performance will be made by alumnus Tony Memmel.

'Paparazzi to the iconic unknown' to visit Carroll

John Sevigny, a highly regarded photographic artist, writer and teacher who has lived in Mexico and Central America for the past 14 years, documenting the sociopolitical climate impacting the region will present 'A Photojournalist's Sociopolitical Journey through Mexico and Central America,' at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at Carroll University. His presentation is the in Humphrey Memorial Chapel, 238 N. East Ave., Waukesha. The free lecture is sponsored by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
