The Waukesha Rotary Noon and Sunrise Clubs are hosting their 60th annual pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Waukesha Expo Center, next to the Waukesha County Airport at 1000 Northview Road.
Rotarian Roger Anderson is among members who have supported the community fundraiser for much of its six decades. He said its success comes from the commitment by members to volunteer and sell tickets, all in the name of supporting the community.
"We've had an infusion of enthusiastic people over the years," he said.
Waukesha Noon Rotary Club President Cathy Waller agreed.
"Our club is a group of community leaders who work together to support the common good, both here locally and internationally. We are honored to raise money to help serve many deserving nonprofit agencies here in Waukesha County as well as support the Rotary International's project of polio eradication," she said.
All proceeds from the event are donated to Waukesha nonprofits through the Rotary Club Charitable Fund. Last year more than 20 nonprofits received support from the Rotary. All proceeds made at the annual festival go back into the community. Rotary distributes more than $20,000 each year in Waukesha County for charitable needs.
It's a bit of Norman Rockwell event, Anderson said of the Saturday pancake festival. The community gathers for a good breakfast for a good cause. Neighbors catch up, and children enjoy stacks of pancakes to their hearts' desire.
Last year, more than 1,600 people turned out to consume more than 5,000 pancakes. The event also features a 50-50 raffle conducted by the Waukesha high school Interact Clubs, a group of students demonstrating Rotary's charitable efforts at a younger level.
Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door for all-you-can-eat pancakes. Children 5 and younger eat free. Coffee and milk and one serving of sausage and juice are included in the price; additional sausages can be purchased. New this year is an option for gluten-free pancakes.
Advance tickets may be purchased at Waukesha State Bank, 100 Bank St., or from any club member.
The club donates each year to charities. including Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, The Women's Center, Hope Center, Safe Babies Healthy Families and internationally, including help for Haiti and eradication of polio and clean water worldwide.
