A 41-year-old Town of Oconomowoc man was charged on Thursday, Dec. 19 in Waukesha County Circuit Court with 10 counts of child porn possession.
Michael Martinez, N51 W34880 Wisconsin Ave., could face up to 250 years in prison and $1 million in fines if convicted.
According to the criminal complaint, officers from the Milwaukee Police Department investigating a burglary in North Milwaukee recovered two cell phones from a suspect's car. One of the phones recovered belonged to Martinez, an alleged victim in the burglary.
The officers obtained search warrants and discovered that Martinez's phone contained 47 images of suspected child pornography. According to the complaint, the images depicted prepubescent girls in sexually suggestive poses. Several of the photos also depicted girls being sexually assaulted by unidentified men, the complaint states.
Martinez told police in the complaint that he moved to Wisconsin from Colorado in 2011 and worked as a K-6 science teacher. He said he downloaded the images while living at Creative Community Learning Services in Waukesha, an organization that operates an assisted living facility for the mentally or physically disabled and those with long-term care needs.
The complaint does not say at which school Martinez taught and he was not listed as a public school employee in records maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
Martinez's cash bond was set at $7,500 at an initial court appearance on Dec. 19. He was next expected to appear in court on Friday, Dec. 27.
