Board selects firm
to perform facilities study
Germantown — The Germantown School Board on Monday selected Plunkett Raysich Architects to perform a facilities study on School District buildings.
The study is meant to both offer solutions for the district's ongoing overcrowding issues, survey the breadth of deferred maintenance projects that have piled up over the years, and address and safety issues in district buildings. If the study is approved by the board, findings will be presented in April 2014.
A mandatory walk-through of the facilities was required as part of the facility master plan study request for proposal that was developed in May 2013. Nine firms participated in the walk-through.
The study will cost $24,500.
District faces four
last-minute resignations
Germantown — A few Germantown teaching positions, some hard-to-fill spots, are now vacant after four teachers resigned one week before the start of school.
Kristin Wiseley, cross categorical teacher at County Line Elementary; Tiffany Bowdish, third-grade teacher at Amy Belle Elementary; Kathy Wurzer, cross categorical teacher at County Line; and Meg Clark, French teacher at Germantown High School, all submitted their letters of resignation, which the Germantown School Board approved on Monday.
The French teaching position will be difficult to fill and Assistant Superintendent Cynthia Coley and High School Principal Joel Farren will be discussing programming changes while they try to fill the position. The Policy Committee is also set to meet in coming weeks to address the hard-to-fill positions such as this one that are highly competitive with a small candidate pool. Despite the late resignations, Coley said, they will be ready for the start of the school year as far as staffing is concerned.

Germantown — The Germantown School Board on Monday approved eight contracts just in time for the school year.
Leanne Zoesch was hired as a cross categorical teacher at County Line Elementary with a salary of $42,312; Steven Martin was hired as a part-time business education teacher at Germantown High School for $18,247; Kyle Suprenand was hired as a seventh-grade social studies teacher at Kennedy Middle School with a salary of $38,483; Joe Katula will be paid $76,132 and fills the vacant elementary school psychologist; Michelle Sievers was hired as a part-time high school psychologist for $45,679; Emily Brezinsky will teach high school English and her salary is $36,923; Holly Cobb was hired as an elementary librarian with a salary of $76,132; and Chelsea Hammett was hired as a third-grade teacher at County Line with a salary of $36,923.
School Board sells
old machines
Germantown — The Germantown School Board on Monday approved selling old laptops and desktop computers to Insight Systems Exchange for $13,125.
The sale included 166 laptops and 223 desktop computers.
Administration reviewing
emergency fund
Germantown — Germantown School District administration is in the process of reviewing how much money should be set aside in the district's emergency fund.
Germantown Superintendent Jeff Holmes told the School Board on Monday that he plans to look through records to see how much the district has historically spent on emergency expenditures. Once that is done, administration will determine a set figure and bring a recommendation to the School Board.
