Husco International, a local manufacturer of hydraulic controls for off-highway equipment used in a variety of industries, will cut 100 jobs and scale back production at its Waukesha headquarters, the company announced recently.

According to the state Department of Workforce Development, Husco, 2239 Pewaukee Road, is laying off a combined 100 hourly and salaried employees and reducing its production of off-highway products in response to a diminished demand for that equipment.

'We regret having to say goodbye to our valued colleagues who have been instrumental in our success over the years and are committed to doing our best to ensure a smooth transition for all involved,' Husco CEO Austin Ramirez said in a statement.

Various positions will be eliminated in phases beginning Sept. 16 and ending Jan. 31, 2017, the company said.

Off-highway equipment production at Husco's Waukesha plant will end early next year; however, similar production will continue at the company's two other plants in Whitewater and Maquoketa, Iowa.

Company officials said in a news release the declining demand for off-highway products is primarily linked to slowdowns in overseas markets, especially in China.

According to the DWD, Husco's product engineering, research and development and automotive manufacturing will continue to expand in Waukesha, and no other changes are expected at any of the company's other operations.
