Moor Downs to host Special Olympics athletes
Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) will bring nearly 1,000 athletes, 300 coaches, 150 volunteers, dozens of medical professionals and hundreds of spectators to Waukesha for the State Outdoor Sports Tournament Friday to Sunday, Aug. 1-3.
Bocce and tennis competitions will take place at Carroll University, golf will take place at the Moor Downs Golf Course and softball competitions will take place at Saratoga Softball Complex.
The tournament is free at all locations and the public is invited to cheer on the athletes. Moor Downs Golf Course, 426 Prospect Ave. in Waukesha, will shot gun start at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Saturday and 7:30 and 10 a.m. Sunday (pace of play will determine the start time for the second round of golf).
Waukesha County Board Chairman Paul Decker and representatives from the Waukesha County Sheriff Department will lead an awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Aug. 3.

Celebrate summer at at the Waukesha Art Crawl
Downtown Waukesha's Red Hot BBQ Art Crawl will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.
The Art Crawl is presented by the West End Artist's Association and features more than 150 artists in 21 galleries.
Plan on celebrating summer, and connecting with friends and neighbors while visiting all the participating galleries, boutiques, night spots and eateries located conveniently in the downtown area.

Waukesha Choral Union auditions set for Aug. 25
Open auditions for prospective new members of Waukesha Choral Union will be held Monday evening, Aug, 25, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2016 Center Road.

The WCU 2014-15 season, with concerts in October, December, March and May, will include performances of a wide range of music under the theme 'The World Sings.' Concerts include songs celebrating global cultures, holiday fare, Handel's 'Messiah' and music of Broadway and opera.

Carroll will launch
Scholars for Life in fall
Carroll University is launching its new Scholars For Life seminars, a lifelong learning program, in August.
The program will feature three seminars focused on music, theater and photography. Each seminar is three days, from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 25-27, on Carroll University's main campus. The $90 seminar fee includes lunch and parking.
'The Music and Times of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven,' will be taught by Mark Aamot at Main Hall. Aamot is Carroll University's professor emeritus. The seminar will explore the life and times of three of the greatest composters of the western world.
'Shakespeare: A Writer Not For An Age But For All Time,' will be taught by John Garrison at Main Hall. Garrison is the assistant professor of English at Carroll University. The theater seminar will study a selection of Shakespeare's work that spans his career.
The digital photography seminar titled, 'Creating Better Photographs: Learning to Use Your Digital Camera,' will be taught by Phillip Krejcarek at the Humphrey Art Center. Krejcarek is a professor of art and chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Carroll University. The focus of this seminar is on using digital cameras as a tool for creativity and self-expression.
Classic Cars meet
returns to Gastaus
The free Wednesday Night Classic Cars returns to the parking lot at Weissgerber's Gasthaus, at Grandview and Silvernail, Waukesha.
Anyone is invited to participate. Starting at 5 p.m., the rumble of hotrods from the '50s and '60s roll into position, next to elegant, classy collector cars once driven by the rich and famous.
Spotless engines, polished chrome, new paint and beautifully detailed interiors bring together collectors and the curious public to walk through memory lane and share stories and experiences of the Golden Years of automobiles.
The setting is festive, lively and fun, with live musical groups performing every Wednesday from the festival stage on the grounds.
Food and beverages are offered with a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, brats, beer and soda.

tutoring for children
Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha (LCGW) provides tutors for children and adults in reading, writing, math and English as a second language.

Walk MS Waukesha
set for Sept. 14
Walk MS Waukesha will be held on Sept. 14 at Frame Park, 1240 Frame Park Drive, Waukesha.
More than 500 participants are expected to come out and help raise the goal of $53,000, which will support direct services for the more than 11,000 children, women and men in Wisconsin diagnosed with MS and their families, as well as MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system.
People can participate in Walk MS individually or as a team. Volunteers are also needed.
Walk MS Waukesha benefits the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Check-in for the walk begins at 9 a.m. with the walk at 10 a.m.
