The city's Plan Commission saw preliminary plans for a 56-unit apartment building in downtown this week.

Community Development Specialist Jeff Fortin said the Oregon, Wis.-based Gorman & Co. is eyeing a downtown parcel near the corner of East Main Street and North Hartwell Avenue to construct the Main Depot Apartments.

The 2.27-acre parcel, which has been vacant for years, is just east of the Canadian National railroad tracks.

Fortin called apartment complex 'high quality.'

'Gorman has done a lot of developments and have a pretty good track record of high-quality and on-site management,' Fortin said.

A modification to the Central City Master Plan would take place for the development to come in, Fortin said. That change and a request for rezoning was slated for discussion at Wednesday's Plan Commission meeting.
