Local attorney Brian Running is Waukesha's new city attorney.

Running defeated Plan Commissioner and former Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Rick Congdon by 20 percentage points.

Running garnered 5,195 votes or 60 percent, while Congdon received 3,452.

Congdon had won a three-person primary in February.

Running is replacing longtime city attorney Curt Meitz, who decided to not seek re-election after a 28-year career at City Hall.

This was the first contested city attorney election since 1986.
