City gets ready for Fourth celebration

The city of Waukesha's Fourth of July festivities include a parade in the morning and a fireworks display at night.

The parade is at 11 a.m. Friday, July 4, and begins at Cutler Park and winds its way through the streets ending at Frame Park. Lineup begins at 9:30 a.m. and the streets will be barricaded at about 10 a.m.

Sponsored by the Waukesha Kiwanis Early Risers, free ice cream will be distributed to all children who participate in the parade.

The fireworks show begins at around 9:30 p.m. on the Waukesha County Expo Center grounds, 1000 Northview Road. The grounds open at 7 p.m.

Alligators coming to Waukesha County Fair

Fairgoers will have the opportunity to enjoy this year's special attraction, "The Swampmaster Gator Show," at the 2014 Waukesha County Fair, July 16-20 at the Waukesha County Expo Grounds. The show is free with fair admission.

The educational and entertaining show includes a demonstration of alligators natural and aggressive behaviors that most humans have never seen before. Watch as The Swampmaster catches an 8-foot, 200-pound alligator with his bare hands. Thrills, laughter as well as valuable information for all ages. Children can even hold a baby alligator safely and have their picture taken with the expert handler, Jeff Quattrocchi.

Swampmaster show, located on the South End of the Fairgrounds near Arena Building, will be 5 and 7 p.m. Wednesday; 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 2:30, 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday; and 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Sunday.

Advance tickets available for county fair

Advance adult general admission tickets for the 2014 Waukesha County Fair, costing $7, are on sale through July 15 at the Waukesha Sentry Foods locations, 2304 W. St. Paul Ave. and 701 Meadowbrook Road, and the Waukesha Expo Center.

Advance tickets will be on sale through the end of business on Tuesday, July 15, or while supplies last. Advance tickets are valid for any day of the 172nd Waukesha County Fair, which runs July 16 through 20 on the Waukesha Expo Grounds.

Tickets at the gate will be $10 adults, $5 youth, children 5 and under are free. Daily parking is $5; motorcycle parking is free courtesy of Hal's Harley-Davidson.

County fair seeking Fairest of the Fair

The Waukesha County Fair Association is accepting applications for the Waukesha County Fair Fairest of the Fair competition, sponsored by Waukesha Kiwanis and Waukesha County Farm Bureau.

Any Waukesha County resident at least 18 years old (on or before July 16) with fair experience is encouraged to apply. Fairest of the Fair entry forms are available at the website, www.WaukeshaCountyFair.com or via email at susie@waukeshacountyfair.com

All completed applications and photos are due by Friday, June 27, to the fair office. The final competition will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Leinie Lodge Stage.

The Waukesha County Fair is Wednesday, July 16 through Sunday, July 20 on the Waukesha Expo Grounds.

Waukesha Civic Theatre presents original comedy

The Waukesha Civic Theatre will present "Dynamite Comedy" on Friday, July 18.

Some of the Civic Theatre's best and brightest young actors have come together for a comedy experience like no other.

Everything performed in the show is completely original material written and developed by the cast. Comedy scenes, song parodies, and a young cast, ages 10 to 21, are featured in one explosively funny performance. All proceeds from this show go to support A.C.T. (Academy at Civic Theatre), WCT's education program.

UW-W theater group performs 'Kiss Me Kate'

The University of Wisconsin-Waukesha Lunt-Fontanne Ensemble Theatre will draw the curtain for "Kiss Me Kate," a musical based on William Shakespeare's comedy "Taming of the Shrew," opening at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 18.

Performances continue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; July 19, Friday, July 25; and Saturday, July 26; and at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 27 in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on the UW-Waukesha campus, 1500 N. University Drive, Waukesha.

The play features the music and lyrics by Cole Porter. the UW-W production crew includes director Steve Decker, musical directors Craig Hurst and Nancy Van Brunt, choreographer Ryan Cappleman and two-time Tony award winning costume designer and guest artist Franne Lee.

Queensrÿche, Wingers headline county fair

The Seattle quintet, Queensrÿche and pop rockers Wingers will headline the Waukesha County Fair on Saturday, July 19.

Queensrÿche has sold over 20 million albums sold globally and 6 million in the U.S. alone. The group has toured with groups such as Metallica to Black Sabbath.

Winger formed in 1986 in New York City. In 1990, they were nominated for Best New Heavy Metal Band. Popular classic singles include "Can't Get Enuff," which reached No. 6 on the Mainstream Rock charts.

July 16-20 marks the 172nd anniversary of the Waukesha County Fair, the oldest fair in Wisconsin.

Fair's run to benefit paralysis foundation

Registration has begun for the Fourth Annual Fair Fun Run/Walk at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Waukesha County Fair.

The Fair is partnering with the Bryon Riesch Paralysis Foundation and a portion of the proceeds raised will fund research to find a cure for paralysis. The run is sponsored by Pepsi, Bucher Law Group LLC, and R&R Insurance.

Families and runners and walkers of all skill levels are welcome to participate. The 5K run or 2-mile walk course travels the perimeter of the fairgrounds over gravel, grass, dirt (possibly mud) and asphalt. Both the run and walk will finish on the south end of the grounds, near the Leinie Lodge, site of the annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at the Fair. Participants are encouraged to stay and enjoy pancakes after the event for $6.

Prizes will be awarded for Best Team Costume, Best Family Costume and Best Individual Costume. Please keep costumes family–friendly and safe for yourself and those running around you. This year's race will not be timed.

Register before July 1 and receive one all-day admission to the Fair on July 19 and race T-shirt. Cost: $20 adults, $10 children 17 and younger. Team and family discounted registration available through June 30.

Golf tourney benefits Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Pyramax Bank Four-Ball Golf Challenge to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, will be Monday, July 21, at Hidden Glen Golf Club in Cedarburg.

Morning volunteering begins at 5:30 a.m. Volunteering continues throughout the day and into the evening reception which ends at approximately 8 p.m. Registration and breakfast opens at 6:30 a.m. Golf begins at 8 a.m. The event will conclude at 8 p.m.

Each golf twosome will be flighted according to their combined handicap. With four twosomes in each flight, each golfer will play their own ball and each twosome will rotate playing the other twosomes in their flight for 27 holes total, divided into three nine-hole matches. At the end of the three matches, flight winners will then compete in a shootout to determine the tournament winner.Participation includes golf, riding cart, breakfast, lunch, cocktails, on-course contests, raffles, post-golf reception and dinner, live and silent auctions, cocktails and awards presentation.

Walk MS Waukesha set for Sept. 14

Walk MS Waukesha will be held on Sept. 14 at Frame Park, 1240 Frame Park Drive, Waukesha.

More than 500 participants are expected to come out and help raise the goal of $53,000, which will support direct services for the more than 11,000 children, women and men in Wisconsin diagnosed with MS and their families, as well as MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system.

People can participate in Walk MS individually or as a team. Volunteers are also needed.

Walk MS Waukesha benefits the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Check-in for the walk begins at 9 a.m. with the walk at 10 a.m.

Literacy Council offers tutoring for children

Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha (LCGW) provides tutors for children and adults in reading, writing, math and English as a second language.

Classic Cars meet returns to Gastaus

The free Wednesday Night Classic Cars returns to the parking lot at Weissgerber's Gasthaus, at Grandview and Silvernail, Waukesha.

Anyone is invited to participate. Starting at 5 p.m., the rumble of hotrods from the '50s and '60s roll into position, next to elegant, classy collector cars once driven by the rich and famous.

Spotless engines, polished chrome, new paint and beautifully detailed interiors bring together collectors and the curious public to walk through memory lane and share stories and experiences of the Golden Years of automobiles.

The setting is festive, lively and fun, with live musical groups performing every Wednesday from the festival stage on the grounds.

Food and beverages are offered with a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers, brats, beer and soda.
