The Waukesha County Metro Drug Unit, working with state officials, on Thursday, Jan. 30, seized more than $38,000 in cash belonging to a suspected Milwaukee heroin dealer.

According to the affidavit, police executed a search warrant on the man's Milwaukee residence on Jan. 29, recovering $750 in cash, two handguns, ammunition and an envelope containing two keys.

The envelope had a return address for the U.S. Bank at 4333 S. 27th St., Greenfield. Also written at the top of the envelope was a five-digit number.

Bank officials confirmed that the numbers belonged to a safe-deposit box at the Greenfield location, the affidavit states, but said a warrant was required to search the box's contents.

The officers obtained a search warrant and found $38,860 in cash in the box. The suspect admitted to owning the box, but claimed the contents were his "personal money."

The paper is not naming the man, as no charges have yet been filed.
