Police Report: July 11

1 A resident at 707 Lynne Drive told police on July 2 someone pretending to be their grandson called saying they were in jail and needed money to get out. The caller also claimed they were injured. The resident said they felt the caller was suspicious and did not send money, but called police to report the incident and get advice on scams.

2 A caller at 2200 Badger Court called police at 11:08 a.m. July 2 to report theft. They said an extension cord was taken from their business and numerous extension cords were also taken from the building next door. The caller requested more police checks because of problems with theft in this area.

3 Damage was done to a car wash at 1343 S. West Ave. The caller reported at 10:46 a.m. July 2 that it appeared overnight someone tried to force their way into the car wash, caused damage to the bays and broke into the change machines and emptied them.

4 Theft of a catalytic converter sometime within the last six months from 1706 Pearl St. was reported at 10:05 a.m. July 2.

5 A manager at Pick 'n Save, 1535 E. Moreland Blvd., called police July 4 after an employee was threatened by a male patron. The woman said the man told her "you're dead" after getting upset his deli order wasn't ready in time. Pick 'n Save plans to ban the man from the store.

6 A woman was stopped before stealing merchandise from Pick 'n Save, 1535 Moreland Blvd., at 3:12 p.m. July 4. According to the report, the woman dropped the merchandise and yelled, "don't touch me" while swatting the hands of a manager away. She ran out of the store getting into a car and heading east on Moreland.

7 An employee at 521 S. Grand Ave. called police at 11:16 p.m. July 3 to report a group of three underage males trying to purchase items with a fake ID. The employee said the subjects ripped the ID out of her hands when she refused them and threatened to come back to the store at closing and hurt her. The employee said the group has tried to purchase things illegally before.

8 A caller at 2141 E. Moreland Blvd. called police at 9:46 a.m. July 3 to report theft of two vehicles from the dealership lot.

9 A resident at 1446 Niagara Court called police at 5:18 a.m. July 8 wanting to speak to police about their neighbors being aliens.

10 Someone reported a male and female broke a window at 820 N. Grand Ave. at 6:57 p.m. July 7. The two ran off before police could locate them.

11 A resident in an apartment complex at 1165 Whiterock Ave. called police at 5:42 a.m. July 7 to report a man sleeping in the hallway in only his underwear. When police located the man, he said he was sleepwalking.

12 Residents in the 600 block of College Avenue reported at 12:59 p.m. July 6 that mustard was sprayed on their vehicles and sexual graffiti was spray painted on the street.

13 Screens on a drivethrough at 704 N. Grand Ave. were reported broken at 8:44 a.m. July 6.

14 A caller at 162 S. Grand Ave. called police at 5:55 p.m. July 5 after coming home and finding a knife lodged between the door trim and the wall to her apartment. She also reported a pot being knocked over, the number to her apartment missing and that someone spit on her door. The woman said she doesn't have problems with anyone who might do this. A neighbor advised that there are issues with teens in the neighborhood.

15 A caller at 10:01 p.m. July 8 called police with concerns about a suspicious man at Corrina Boulevard and North Barstow Street holding his hand over his face as if he was injured. When police located the man he said he often covers his face because he doesn't like people looking at him because they get hostile toward him. He said he feels the hostility is primarily because of, "his self admitted good looks and eastern European descent."

16 Theft of five batteries from the area of White Rock Avenue and Niagara Street was reported at 7:47 p.m. July 8.

17 A caller at 2440 E. Moreland Court called police at 6:12 p.m. July 8 to report that someone tried to gain entry into their vehicle causing significant damage to the doors.

18 A funeral home owner at 237 N. Moreland Blvd. called police at 5:08 p.m. July 8 to report that a lock had been cut off a recycle Dumpster. The woman said she recently got a new Dumpster with locks because of past problems with tampering. The woman asked for extra checks during overnight hours until she can install video cameras.

19 A grill and clothes from a clothesline were reported stolen from 443 W. Dunbar Ave. on July 5.

20 A pharmacist reported someone attempting to use a fake prescription at 221 E. Sunset Drive July 8. The pharmacist said a man altered the prescription indicating an increased dosage and claimed he spilled water on it which washed the dosage off and he "fixed" it.

21 A Playstation and games were reported stolen from a locked garage at 1420 Garfield Ave. at 12:33 p.m. July 8.

22 Theft of a TV from a waiting room at 1336 E. Main St. was reported at 8:50 a.m. July 8. The caller said there were no signs of forced entry and suspects a past employee.

There were more than 80 calls for complaints about fireworks logged from the evening of July 3 to early morning on July 5.
