The Waukesha Allied Veteran's Council is hosting its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday.

Parade line-up begins at 9:15 a.m. by the Schuetze Recreation Center and in the Frame Park parking lot and is expected to begin at 10:15. It is scheduled to end at 11.

The route begins at Frame Park on Baxter Street, goes south on Buckley Street, west on West Main Street, south on Maple Avenue to West Park Avenue before arriving in Cutler Park.

The streets will be closed during this time.

There will be a ceremony to honor veterans at 11 a.m. at the park, 321 Wisconsin Ave. The program is free.

After the parade in downtown, a group from the Veterans of Foreign Wars will perform a short service outside Prairie Home Cemetery's chapel at 11:30 a.m. and noon. There will also be a chapel open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Nancy Faulk, service specialist at Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, said it's the first day of the year that its Avenue of Flags will be up, when the cemetery prominently displays more than 100 large flags on its main drive through the cemetery.
