Student from Waukesha killed in apparent drive-by shooting in St. Louis

March 02, 2014 10:25 p.m. | In high school at Catholic Memorial in Waukesha and in pharmacy school in St. Louis, Nicholas Kapusniak was known as a happy-go-lucky young man who always wanted to help others.

Early Saturday at a party in the backyard of a home in St. Louis, Kapusniak, 20, was shot and killed in what appears to be a drive-by shooting.

Kapusiak was a student at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. He was a 2011 graduate of Catholic Memorial High School.

According to the St. Louis police report, Kapusniak was standing with a group of friends at the back of a home at 12:55 a.m. Saturday when a person traveling in a white sedan fired gunshots from a nearby alley.

Kapusniak was shot in the upper left side of his torso and was carried into the home, where he was pronounced dead by emergency personnel.

Waukesha woman accused of drinking on duty at nursing home gets probation

Feb. 28, 2014 11:04 a.m. | A 42-year-old Waukesha woman received two years of probation after she was charged with drinking heavily while working at a nursing care facility and neglecting three patients, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.

Retha N. Moore, a former nursing assistant who was banned by the state from working as a caregiver, was fired immediately when a co-worker at Pine View Living in Madison found her drunk while on-duty in 2012.

Of the three residents, ages 80, 84 and 95, in the facility at the time Moore was drinking, one was left on a toilet and another was in an awkward position in bed, the State Journal reports.

Waukesha man who suffered burns from Feb. 14 house fire dies

Feb. 27, 2014 11:24 a.m. | The man who was burned in a Waukesha house fire a couple weeks ago has died, Fire Marshal Brian Charlesworth said in a news release Thursday morning.

The release said that City of Waukesha Fire and Police departments were notified Wednesday by staff of the St. Mary's Burn Center in Milwaukee of Michael Coyle's death.

The Medical Examiner's Office will be conducting an examination to determine the cause of death, Charlesworth said.

Coyle, the Waukesha man who was charged with secretly recording two females undressing in the staff bathroom at the Swimtastic Swim School last October, had second-and third-degree burns over 90 percent of his body after a fire broke out Feb. 14 in an attached two-car garage in a single-family residence at 1007 Motor Ave.

He was listed in "grave condition" upon being transported to the burn center.
