Complaint filed over Golden Guernsey milk plant closing

Jan. 08, 2013 5:40 p.m. | A displaced employee at the Golden Guernsey milk bottling plant in Waukesha has filed a complaint with state officials over the plant's sudden closing that left more than 100 people jobless.

The shutdown caused a flurry of activity over the weekend and Monday as school districts took inventory of their milk supply and worked to line up contracts with new providers.

It also resulted in the loss of at least 112 jobs at Golden Guernsey that's owned by OpenGate Capital, a Los Angeles private equity firm that acquired the dairy processor in 2011 from Dean Foods Co.

Workforce Development officials said they weren't given the required notice of the plant shutdown.

Under state law, employers must give 60 days notice of any shutdown to city and state officials if it involves a mass layoff.

Police arrest three in two separate Waukesha robberies

Jan. 07, 2013 1:36 p.m. | Waukesha police have arrested three men in two separate armed robberies in December - one at GameStop and the other at Associated Bank.

Billy P. Hodges, 23, of Waukesha has been charged with two felony counts of armed robbery with threat of force accusing of robbing the GameStop, 1210 W. Sunset Drive, shortly after 8:30 p.m. Dec. 21, police said Monday.

According to a police news release, Hodges entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. He fled after obtaining an undisclosed amount of money.

On Dec. 31, a Waukesha police officer saw a man who matched Hodges' description loitering in front of the George Webb restaurant on Delafield St. The man had a BB gun and police believe he was there to commit another robbery when the officer showed up.

Police believe another 23-year-old man acted as the getaway driver. He's expected to be charged with being party to a crime of robbery.
