Waukesha County Fair pleads for help

Even in the pouring rain, the show must go on at the Waukesha County Fair.

The fair, which is run by a nonprofit organization, took an unexpected hit due to poor ticket sales last night, according to Shari Black, executive director of the fair. While she would not give specific numbers, Black said that having to pay for a main stage performer without the typical attendance creates financial problems.

Black issued a news release asking the public to help keep the fair on its feet.

'Thursday's severe weather has had a considerable financial impact on the future of our non-profit organization. We really need your support tonight, Saturday and Sunday,' the release says.

Thursday night, Ted Nugent performed through the heavy rains, ending the show a few minutes early.

Black would not estimate the size of the crowd.

'We did have 850 VIP seats sold. He definitely has some die-hard fans that were willing to brave the weather to see him perform,' Black said.

'We just really need the support of the community,' Black said.

According to the fair's website, the fair is open and the grounds are in good shape Friday. The fair runs through Sunday.
