Waukesha - Waukesha police on Wednesday identified the bicyclist hit on Highway 164 by a Waukesha police squad July 13 as 17-year-old Travis Weber.

He remains at Children's Hospital, where he was transported by Flight for Life. A hospital spokesman said Wednesday that the family has requested that the extent of his injuries and condition not be released.

Waukesha police have so far refused to release reports on the accident. In denying a records request of the Journal Sentinel, Police Chief Russell Jack said that "this investigation is open and active as it has not yet been adjudicated through the courts."

He said the investigation "may lead to an enforcement action, administrative proceeding, arbitration proceeding or court proceeding."

In an initial press release, police said a police squad struck one of two bicyclists wearing dark clothing and crossing Highway 164 at an uncontrolled intersection at Lincoln Ave. The officer - identified Monday as Ian DeKarske - was responding without lights or siren in a non-emergency fashion to assist other officers on a call elsewhere, police said.
