Scrima outspent Nelson in Waukesha mayor's race, reports show
Waukesha - Jeff Scrima spent just over $26,000 in his successful campaign for Waukesha mayor this spring, a third more than incumbent Larry Nelson.
Campaign finance reports filed Tuesday show that Nelson raised as much as Scrima during the campaign but spent $19,600, or 33.4% less, in his bid for re-election.
While Scrima lent his campaign $11,000, which has not been repaid as of Tuesday, Nelson raised all of his money from other contributors, including about $4,500 from labor union political action committees. Scrima received $480 from "Concerned Realtors Committee."
According to the latest reports:
Scrima raised $26,372 and spent $26,235 in the campaign, virtually depleting his campaign kitty. Most of his expenses were for Waukesha newspaper and Facebook advertising, signs and printing.
Nelson, raised $26,114, spent $19,593 and was left with about $7,000 cash on hand. The latest campaign finance reports include previously unreported expenses and income beginning March 23, two weeks before the election, through June 30, as well as year-to-date totals.
In the last mayoral election in 2006, then-alderman Nelson spent about $24,000 to defeat Republican state Rep. Ann Nischke, who spent about $60,000 on her campaign.
