Waukesha - With temperatures heading for the deep freeze tonight and some Waukesha County residents likely still without electrical power, county officials said that numerous shelters throughout the county are available for those needing lodging.

Anyone in the county who needs a warm place to stay can call 2-1-1, a service that provides free, confidential information on available resources, according to a press release from Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas' office. Those whose cellular provider does not allow calls to 2-1-1- can call (877) 947-2211 or (262) 547-3388.

Brian Manthey, spokesman for WE Energies, said that of the 14,000 people still without power in the company's service area late Wednesday afternoon, about 5,700 were in Waukesha County - primarily Menomonee Falls, Brookfield, Waukesha, Delafield city and town and Lisbon. While workers tried to restore power Wednesday, more calls came in with a wave of new outages, he said. With high winds predicted for Wednesday night, more calls could be coming in.

Single-digit temperatures and gusting winds are expected to send wind chills well below zero.
