Inmate shot by deputy faces new charge

Waukesha - A Waukesha County Jail inmate who was shot at a hospital after he allegedly attacked a sheriff's deputy was charged Wednesday in connection with incident.

Steven P. Lettenberger was charged with assault by prisoner and felony bail jumping in connection with the Nov. 6 incident at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, according to online court records.

Bail was set at $100,000 for Lettenberger, who was in custody Wednesday in the Waukesha County Jail, according to the court and online jail records.

Lettenberger, 44, who was being treated at the hospital, was shot in the upper torso by a deputy whom he was advancing toward with a sharped-edge instrument, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department has said.

Lettenberger, of Waukesha, was charged in Waukesha County in August with bail jumping, being armed with a firearm while intoxicated and carrying a concealed weapon.
