ProHealth to close addiction treatment center

Waukesha — Citing economic pressures and industry changes, ProHealth Care announced Thursday that it is closing a 25-year-old drug addiction treatment clinic.

The Lawrence Center, which operates in a former school at 3011 Saylesville Road, is scheduled to close its doors effective Aug. 14.

ProHealth Care said some services would be shifted to the company's Waukesha Memorial Hospital, but inpatient rehabilitation and day treatment services would be discontinued.

Demand for such services has averaged just four patients a day in recent months, the company said.

Among the services being continued at the hospital is an increasingly utilized treatment program for people recovering from addiction to prescription painkillers and heroin.

Officials said no decision has been made about the Saylesville Road property.
