Waukesha — A Waukesha man tried to strangle his fiancée and her 9-year-old son with a belt, Waukesha Police Capt. Mark Stigler said Thursday.

The man, 29, is in the Waukesha County Jail awaiting charges, he said.

Police were called to the 300 block of Jackson Court about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. The man was armed with a knife and belt when he assaulted and attempted to strangle the woman, Stigler said. He is also accused of beating her sons, 9 and 10, and attempting to strangle the younger boy, he said.

Police are recommending the man be charged with felony child abuse, substantial battery, and strangulation.

He was convicted of three counts of misdemeanor domestic battery in 2005 involving the same woman, Stigler said.
