Lake water application delayed

Published on: 2/17/2009

Mayor Larry Nelson has told me that the city's application to the DNR and the other Great Lake states to acquire Lake Michigan water won't happen as quickly as he had hoped.

Several months ago, Nelson said he had hoped the application would be ready for Common Council vote by this month or March. He's not sure when it will be ready.

Questions to the DNR about the application remain to be worked out. The city also is working on responding to a lengthy list of questions posed by Milwaukee-based environmentalists, mainly about Waukesha's plans to return the treated water to a Wauwatosa waterway.

After reading Great Lakes Blogger, one gets the feeling that getting the diversion will not be a slam dunk.

Pizza party at the drop-in shelter

If you like pizza and bag pipers, then the Hebron House Drop-In Shelter at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 111 E. Main St., might be the place for you on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

This is a community mission project for a Bible study group from Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Oconomowoc.

The dust up over the shelter for 35 single, homeless men has been widely reported. The food will be from Jimmy’s Grotto Pizza. The four bag pipers are cadets from St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy.
