Waukesha - ProHealth Care will donate an extra $100,000 to the United Way in Waukesha County, taking the Quadracci family's challenge to bridge the organization's funding gap.

Last week, the Windhover Foundation, a charitable group funded by Quad/Graphics and the Quadracci family, announced it would donate $275,000 to the United Way in Waukesha County.

Joel Quadracci, president and chief executive of Quad/Graphics, urged the community to match the gift by raising the remaining money needed to maintain United Way service levels.

The United Way had projected a $475,000 shortfall in its annual fund drive, prompting its board of directors to plan for across-the-board funding cuts of 8% to 10% to participating programs.

With the Quadracci and ProHealth donations, United Way in Waukesha County needs another $100,000 in contributions by March 20 to shelve the across-the-board cuts.

ProHealth Care's extra donation comes on top of its annual employee campaign, which raised $235,345 in 2008, as well as its corporate gift. ProHealth Care also donated $5,000 last fall to the United Way, money that ProHealth Care was awarded as part of being named the Large Nonprofit of the Year by the Waukesha County executive.

ProHealth Care's President and CEO Ford Titus said in a statement the $100,000 donation was being made by the companies' more than 6,000 employees, "many of whom have friends and neighbors currently served by United Way agencies.

"They are an important safety net in our community," Titus said.
