Despite, or perhaps because of, a loss for Donald Trump — the Republican presidential candidate — here in the April presidential primary, Trump's pick for vice president, Mike Pence, will be making his first solo stop on their campaign trail in Waukesha.
The Republican Party of Waukesha County confirmed Pence's appearance Tuesday afternoon, July 26 in an event post on its website.
Pence is scheduled to appear at a rally around 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 at the Waukesha County Expo Center, 1000 Northview Road.
Trump, who in Wisconsin lost to Sen. Ted Cruz by a 13-point margin in the spring primary, named Pence as the other half of the GOP ticket in the November presidential election at the Republican National Convention last week.
Wisconsin is considered a battleground state in elections — which means that candidates will frequently make stops here during their campaigns in an effort to sway voters — and Waukesha County is a Republican stronghold.
According to numerous media reports, Pence is also a good friend of Gov. Scott Walker, who announced his ultimately failed candidacy for president last summer at the Expo Center.
