One woman was killed and two women were injured when a vehicle westbound on Interstate 94 in Waukesha County crossed the median and struck an eastbound vehicle head-on Tuesday.

The crash, which occurred about 5:30 p.m. at county Highway SS in the Town of Delafield, closed the freeway in both directions for several hours.

The driver of the westbound vehicle, an 18-year-old Waukesha woman, was transported to Froedtert Hospital by Flight for Life for serious injuries. Her passenger, identified Wednesday as 67-year-old Melinda Malison of Waukesha, was pronounced dead at Froedtert.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a 22-year-old Delafield woman, was treated for minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.
