A reckless driver had to be extricated from his car around 11:55 a.m. Tuesday, May 17 after he slammed his pickup truck into the back of a semi truck near East North and Madison streets.

According to a Waukesha Police Department news release, numerous callers had reported the man for reckless driving while he was traveling into the city along Pewaukee Road. Shortly after those calls were received, the department began receiving reports about the accident near downtown Waukesha.

The front of the man's truck was pinned beneath the safety bars on the rear of the semi, and a tow truck had to wrench his car free before fire department personnel could remove the man from his vehicle.

He sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash, according to the release, but was rushed by ambulance to the Flight for Life hangar at Crites Field, where he was then flown to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa.

East North Street was closed to traffic for about two hours following the accident while the crash was being investigated. The police department warned residents of the closure on its Twitter and Facebook pages.

Police did not release the name, age or community of residence of the driver or indicate whether any citations would be issued to him.
