Waukesha West, South cheer teams heading to state in Madison

The Waukesha West and Waukesha South cheerleading squads are heading to state.

The Wolverines and Blackshirts are set to compete in the Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches State Championships on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.

General admission is $10. Children younger than 5 years old get in for free.

West earned its spot at state after placing second at the Division 1 All Girl Super Small Cheer category and fourth place in the Division 1 Small Cheer Dance category at the Southern Regional event Saturday, Feb. 20, at Wilmot Union High School.

The team is coached by Jenny Brown and Katy Rice.

West will perform one routine at 9:16 a.m., and the other at 10:52 a.m.

South punched its ticket to the state meet with a fourth-place finish in the Division 1 All Girl Super Small Cheer category at the same regional.

South will perform its state routine at 10:28 a.m.

The Blackshirts are coached by Sara Dood.
