A West Allis woman suspected of driving drunk on I-94 has been charged with a felony after police say she crashed into a squad vehicle while fleeing deputies Saturday in Waukesha County.

Rebecca M. Szymkowski, 23, made her initial appearance in Waukesha County Circuit Court on Monday on the felony charge of fleeing an officer, and she was released on $1,000 bail and a $5,000 signature bond, online court records show.

She also faces seven traffic citations, including first-offense drunken driving.

The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department released Szymkowki's mug shot Wednesday along with photos of the crash scene, showing the front of her car and the back of the squad sport-utility vehicle crumpled and in pieces.

An earlier news release indicated that the incident began when a Waukesha County deputy tried to stop Szymkowski around 2 a.m. Saturday on westbound I-94 in Brookfield for driving her Jeep Compass without lights. The sheriff's department said Szymkowski refused to stop and continued on I-94 at about 40 mph, even slowing at one point to under 5 mph before hitting a median wall and continuing on.

A second deputy was finishing up an unrelated traffic stop on I-94 in Pewaukee when Szymkowski crashed her car into the second deputy's SUV, with the deputy narrowly avoiding being hit, the sheriff's department said.
