1 killed when SUV hits tree in Town of Waukesha

One person was killed Wednesday night when an SUV crashed into a tree in the Town of Waukesha.

The crash occurred at 10:42 p.m. on River Road, and Waukesha County Sheriff's deputies and the Town of Waukesha firefighters were called to the scene, where they found the SUV engulfed in flames, according to a department news release.

Authorities said the driver, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has not been identified.

The SUV had been traveling south on River Road when it left the road and hit the tree. The crash remains under investigation.
