The parents of the 12-year-old girl who authorities say was stabbed repeatedly by two of her classmates is walking the halls of Waukesha Memorial Hospital without machines or tubes and sitting up to watch television, her family said in a statement.

The statement posted online said: "As parents of this little girl, we are overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we've received from our family, friends and community. Our little girl is a fighter and is improving each and every day. We appreciate your patience, love and support, as we too are stunned and saddened by this tragedy."

Waukesha Memorial Hospital officials on Wednesday said her condition had been upgraded to fair. The Journal Sentinel is not publishing the name of the girl.

The family has started an online fundraising campaign at www.gofundme.com/HeartsForHealingWI, and hopes to raise $250,000 for medical and legal expenses. People can also make donations to the Hearts for Healing Fund at any BMO Harris Bank branch in southeastern Wisconsin.

Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier have been charged with first-degree attempted homicide in the case and are being held on $500,000 bail in a secure detention facility in West Bend. All three girls have been classmates at Horning Middle School in Waukesha.
