A 24-year-old Waukesha man has been charged with shooting into a van that had two children in the back seats Wednesday.

Alonzo Corral, who was arrested during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon, was charged with one count of attempted first degree intentional homicide.

The incident happened around 4 p.m. in a parking lot in the 2100 block of Kensington Drive in Waukesha. The victims drove away, and the shooter ran away on foot. The suspect and victims know each other, police said.

According to the criminal complaint:

The intended victim, John L. Brautigam, was riding with Damien Jimenez and his two children, ages 5 and 8, in Jimenez's van, on their way to Kensington Drive to pick up another friend.

On the way there, Brautigam told Jimenez that Corral had been trying to get people to beat up Brautigam.

Upon arrival at Kensington, they honked for the other friend, then parked to wait. Corral walked up from behind the van and fired into the front passenger's seat.

Brautigam told police he sensed the bullet whiz by his ear, then dropped down as Jimenez drove off and heard a second gunshot.
