Waukesha alderman Kalblinger resigns from his position

Three years after winning a recall election, Waukesha Alderman John Kalblinger is stepping down from his post.

"It has been an honor to work with you and a privilege to serve my neighbors," said Kalblinger in a resignation email to Common Council and city staff Oct. 2.

Kalblinger served Waukesha's 7th District on the city's south side.

His last day as alderman is Oct. 25.

In the email, Kalblinger said he has accepted "an employment opportunity elsewhere."

Interested candidates who live in District 7 can apply for the vacancy by sending a letter of interest and résumé to the Mayor's Office, 201 Delafield St., or email Mayor Jeff Scrima at jscrima@ci.waukesha.wi.us by 4:30 p.m. Oct. 25.

The Police Department will conduct background checks on applicants to determine whether any criminal convictions exist that would disqualify an applicant.

Candidates will be interviewed and selected by closed balloting during the Common Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the City Hall Council Chambers.

The appointment would be from Nov. 8 until April 2014, the conclusion of Kalblinger's three-year term.

Kalblinger defeated Alderwoman Peggy Bull in September 2010 after residents began a campaign to remove her as alderwoman. She was the alderwoman since 2006.

Seven months later, Kalblinger won a three-year term in 2011.

Earlier this year, Alderman Paul Ybarra stepped down as District 5 alderman to spend more time with his family and because of increased international travel for his job.

The Common Council also welcomed two new aldermen during this year's spring election.
