5k Lights Run helps conclude Friday Night Live season

The lights will go out on another Friday Night Live season this week.

But with the inaugural Friday Night Live 5k Lights Run taking place, there will be plenty of color to brighten the night throughout downtown.

The run begins around 7:15 p.m. as runners and walkers take off from Main Street as music plays on stages across downtown.

The music for Friday Night Live, on nine stages, begins at 6:30 p.m.

Participants in the 5k will wear glow devices to help light the way.

The course includes heading east on Main toward Clinton Street, left on Clinton onto the River Walk through Frame Park on the south side of the river; up to Moorland crossing over the river, back through Frame Park along the river to Barstow Street.

Once on Barstow, runners make their way to Main Street through Friday Night Live as music continues until 9 p.m.

A runner's path will be set up through Main Street with barricades and pedestrian control.

Before the 5k, a free 1-mile Kid's Run is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., presented by the City of Waukesha's Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department. That run starts on Main and Maple and heads east toward Clinton.

Participants will turn left onto Clinton and head into Frame Park along the River Walk and head back after a half mile, which will be marked. They'll finish back on Main and Maple and will be greeted by music and other runners.

The Waukesha Downtown Business Association is sponsoring the 5k Lights Run. Each runner will receive a glow device and T-shirt.

Participant's packet pick-up and registration begins at 5:30 p.m. on site on the west end of the intersection of Main and Maple. A photo ID is required at check in.

To sign up, visit the registration website. The cost is $35 but discounts are available for City of Waukesha residents.

Besides the 5k run, the Brew City Fire Brigade dance company that was featured at last year's Waukesha Janboree will perform a fire dancing show.

In addition, the Gibson Tour Bus and bus driver Don Crawford will attend the last Friday Night Live and will offer bus tours during the night. Crawford will be located downtown by Allo Chocolat, 234 W. Main St., by the Kids from Waukesha Stage.

The Gibson Tour Bus was last in Waukesha during the GuitarTown festivities in June and made stops at various locations, including a few schools.

Friday Night Live, a summer concert series that closes the streets in downtown on 17 Friday nights from June through September, had more than 70 acts this year perform at various stages.
