Waukesha's Night Out scheduled for tonight in Frame Park

Heightening crime and drug prevention awareness and promoting safety knowledge are some of the top goals of Waukesha's annual Night Out.

The annual event, which began in 1988, returns from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Frame Park on the Rotary Building Grounds, 1150 Baxter St. 

The event is free and features 30 tables, displays and demonstrations.

Some of the displays include:

  • Flight for Life (5 to 6 p.m.)
  • WI Department of Transportation & AAA are providing and running a Distracted Driving Simulator for teens and adults.
  • Child Car Seat Information provided by Safe Kids of Wisconsin.
  • A squad car, armored car and command post will be on display from the Waukesha Police Department.
  • Child ID Kits - a Waukesha police officer will be present to fingerprint children.
  • The Fire Safety House, an ambulance and a fire truck will be on display from the Waukesha Fire Department.
  • Waukesha Recycling will have a recycling display.
  • The Waukesha Citizens Police Academy Alumni will be present.
  • McGruff the Crime Dog and Sparky the Fire Dog will be in the crowd.
  • ProHealth Care will be selling and fitting children's bicycle helmets for $10.
  • A K-9 and deputy, a motorcycle deputy and the Sheriff's Department Command Post from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department will be on display.
  • Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will have a boating safety display.

Other entertainment include live music and the Badgerland Ski Team will perform at 6 p.m. in the Fox River.

There will also be free food, an inflatable jump house and slide, carnival games, activities and prizes for children. Batman and the Batmobile will be on hand as well for photo opportunities.

Safety/drug information and demonstrations for people of all ages will also take place.
