A 31-year-old man from Waukesha has been detained as a person of interest in a homicide investigation that took place in Lafayette County over the weekend.

Waukesha Police Criminal Investigations Division Lt.Tom Wagner sent a release Monday morning stating the department assisted Lafayette officials in detaining the suspect who was taken into custody at 2:52 p.m. Sunday without incident.

Wagner said the suspect was then turned over to Lafayette County, after being detained at the Waukesha Police Department.

According to reports, three people were found dead Sunday morning in a rural home in Lafayette County which is in the western part of the state. A family member discovered the bodies after a man was reported missing since Friday. The victims' names have not been released.

A truck owned by one of the victims was reported missing and Waukesha police found the truck parked at an apartment complex. According to reports, the suspect did not know the victims.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Police dogs tracked the man's path about 1½ miles from his abandoned vehicle, near the community of South Wayne in neighboring Lafayette County where the three people were murdered. Some of the man's clothing was discovered on the path.

Then authorities issued an alert for the man who then believed to be partially naked and perhaps disoriented because of an altered mental state, authorities said. Green County sheriff's officials urged anyone who saw the man not to make contact with him but write down his location and contact authorities.

The man has numerous convictions, according to state records. He was convicted of misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon in Waukesha County in 2001 and 2002 as well as minor traffic offenses in 2007 and 2009.
