The City of Waukesha will have to wait one more week to hear the Town of Waukesha's final decision on its participation in the city's future water service area.
This is a result of the Town of Waukesha Board, before a standing-room-only crowd at Town Hall, not taking action on an item Thursday night to reconsider a previous decision the board made to include just a small portion of the town in the city's future water service area.
After hearing many comments for and against reversing a vote the board made at a Jan. 24 board meeting, Supervisor Joe Banske revealed that he received a phone call from City of Waukesha Water Utility General Manager Dan Duchniak an hour and a half before Thursday's meeting to discuss the issue with the town further.
As a result, Banske said he, new chairman John Marek, Duchniak and other officials involved will now meet next week to discuss options for all involved parties.
Since the other board members did not have a problem with that, the decision most in attendance came for was postponed.
The Town Board will now reconvene next week to revisit its involvement in the city's future water service area.
The Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission included nearly the entire town in the service area, but the previous board said as a way to protect town borders less of the town should be in the city's water service area.
But Marek has said that it's in the best interest to include the entire town in the service area for a secondary water source.
Duchniak said the city needs an answer from the town by April 30 to complete its request for Lake Michigan water.
