Waukesha - A man and a woman were injured in a shooting early Tuesday morning and a suspect was later taken into custody, Waukesha police said.

Police were called to a residence in the 1600 block of S. West Ave. on a report that two people had been shot. A 45-year-old Pewaukee man and a 42-year-old Waukesha woman were treated at Waukesha Memorial Hospital for nonlife threatening wounds, Capt. Ron Oremus said.

The suspect, a man, was located at an apartment in the 1800 block of S. West Ave.

Waukesha police officers and the Waukesha Sheriff's Department responded along with two armored rescue vehicles as a precaution, Oremus said.

According to Waukesha police dispatch records, police telephoned the suspect, a 42-year-old Waukesha man, and he came out of the apartment about 4:35 a.m.

He was taken into custody without incident, Oremus said.

Oremus said the victims and suspect know each other and were involved in an altercation. As the victims were leaving, the suspect fired his gun, striking the two victims.
