Dry conditions force Merrill Hills Country Club in Waukesha to cancel fireworks show

Like usual, the Fourth of July festivities at Merrill Hills Country Club in Waukesha is packed with activities throughout the day for its members.

But the nightcap this year will be quiet as the fireworks show has been canceled.

The Club announced Tuesday afternoon that due to the drought conditions throughout the state, the Waukesha Fire Department determined that Merrill Hills cannot safely launch off fireworks on Wednesday.

Merrill Hills is located at W270 S3425 Merrill Hills Road.

The City of Waukesha is still planning on holding its fireworks show at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the Waukesha County Expo Center.

However, the Town of Merton announced last week that it was going to cancel its fireworks show due to the extremely dry conditions. Moreover, many communities in the area have issued burn bans.

Although the fireworks show will be canceled at the Club, there are still many events during the day that include tennis target games from noon to 12:45 p.m., pool games from 1 to 3 p.m., carnival games from 3 to 8 p.m., live entertainment by the South End Blues Band from 5 to 8:30 p.m., a family buffet from 6 to 8 p.m. and a golf cart parade at 8:30 p.m. where kids can decorate their own golf cart for the parade.

Reservations are required. Call (262) 548-1100 to reserve a spot.

Beginning at 1 p.m., all members will be charged and given a wristband for all the activities.

As a result of the fireworks show being canceled, the price of the day is now $29.95 for adults instead of the original $35.95. The children’s price (ages 5 to 12) is still at $15.
