The Waukesha County Fair isn’t for a few more weeks, but registration papers for a few of the fair’s events are due by this weekend.

Fairest of the Fair

Waukesha County residents, at least 18 years old before July 18, are eligible to be the Fairest of the Fair.

The winner is selected based on personality, communication skills, school and community activities, professional appearance, knowledge of and experience with the Waukesha County Fair.

The Fairest of the Fair is the official host and spokeswoman for the 2012 Waukesha County Fair with duties including welcoming the public, interviews with the media, announcing special events, judging and participating in contests and awarding ribbons.

Throughout the year, the Fairest of the Fair attends and/or speaks at various county functions and represents the Waukesha County Fair at the three-day Wisconsin State Fairest of the Fairs competition, Jan. 6-9, 2013 in Wisconsin Dells.

Applications, which can be found on the Waukesha County Fair’s website, at waukeshacountyfair.com, along with a scanned color photo can be emailed to katy@waukeshacountyfair.com.

Top Singer

The deadline for the second annual Waukesha County Fair Top Singer contest is at 11:59 p.m. Friday. To enter, singers, ages 16 to 28, can upload videos to the Waukesha County Fair Contest App. on its Facebook Fan Page.

Performances should be a capella, no longer than 60 seconds, with no inappropriate content. Begin the video with a name and song title.

Preliminary voting begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday through 11:59 p.m. July 11. During that time, the public will have the opportunity to watch the videos and vote for a favorite (One vote per Facebook account).

The finalists will be announced on the Waukesha County Fair website and Facebook App at 9 a.m. July 12.

The finalists will then perform before a panel of judges at 7:30 p.m. July 18, opening night of the fair, at the Leinie Lodge. Background music or an accompanist is allowed for this performance. (Finalists are responsible for providing their own accompaniment either in person or recorded).

The judges will determine one winner and a runner-up. The Top Singer winner will receive $250 in cash and have the opportunity to perform his or her winning song on the Miller Lite Main Stage July 22, immediately before country star Craig Morgan performs at 6 p.m.

First runner-up will also receive a cash prize and may perform in place of the Top Singer should he or she be unavailable.

Run/Walk

The early deadline for registration of the second annual Fair Fun Run/Walk is Saturday. If participants register by then, they will receive a one-day admission to the Fair good for July 21 and a complimentary race T-shirt.

Participants can still register, though, online through July 19. Race day registration begins onsite at 8 a.m.

If you register online after July 1, participants will still receive the free admission to the Fair but won’t include the T-shirt. It is also cheaper if participants register by Saturday.

The race is a 5K run/2-mile walk and takes participants around the perimeter of the fairgrounds including running in gravel, grass, dirt and asphalt.

The race will finish on the south end of the grounds, near the Leinie Lodge, site of the annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast.
