Weekend Waukesha Planner: Politics, Music, Marathon highlight the schedule

If you want variety this weekend, there is plenty of it in Waukesha this weekend. Here is a list of events that involves a little something for everyone:

Music: Want to hear some oldies from a couple of Beatles-tribute groups? If so, the Waukesha County Expo Center is the place to be as Oldies 95.7 presents the ninth annual Beatle Bash Friday evening.

Tickets are available at the door and go for $20. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a Friday Fish Fry (an additional charge) available. Music begins at 6:30 p.m. with the Waukesha County-based group The Lonely Hearts opening for the Milwaukee-based band The BriTins. The BriTins will go on stage at 8 p.m. The Expo Center is located at 1000 Northview Road in Waukesha.

Schools: There are lots of talented individuals in the Waukesha schools. You can see some of this talent while helping out a good cause at the 2012 Waukesha North High School talent show. The show is at 7 p.m. at North, 2222 Michigan Ave. Admission is $3 or $2 with a non-perishable food item for the Waukesha Food Pantry.

Fitness: The 20th annual Trailbreaker Race takes place at 8 a.m. Saturday beginning at the Schuetze Recreation Center, 1120 Baxter St. in Waukesha. Registration is open at runthetrailbreaker.com. The race consists of a full marathon, half-marathon and a 5K Run/Walk.

All events begin at the Schuetze Recreation Center, running along the Fox River in Frame Park, while the full marathon continues on the Glacial Drumlin Trail to the top of the Lapham Peak Tower and returns. Politics: Not sure who you are going to vote for in next Tuesday’s Presidential Primary? Want to get up close with the Republican presidential candidates? Or just love politics? Saturday is your opportunity to hear Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich, as the three headline the Wisconsin Faith & Freedom Presidential Kick-Off in Waukesha.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the Country Springs Hotel, 1280 Golf Road. The event is free but register online at ffcoalition.com.

Pets: The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha will hold two seminars this weekend. The first is from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday for pet owners who want to learn lifesaving tips and be ready for pet emergencies. HAWS is located at 701 Northview Road. Call (262) 879-0165 to register.

The other is called, “How to Raise a Puppy and Keep Your Sanity.” It begins at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at HAWS. While there, you will learn how to raise a puppy that develops into a well-behaved adult canine member of your family. Puppies must have at least their first round of shots to attend. Colleges: Carroll University’s Wind Symphony will host a music concert beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., in Waukesha. Carroll’s Wind Symphony, guest pianist Raffi Besalyan and the Anglo-Chinese Junior College Concert band will perform.

It will be a preview of the same performance at the second annual International Music Festival in Chicago next week. Tickets, which are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors 60 and older, are available at the door starting at 3 p.m. You can also call the box office at (262) 524-7633.
