Waukesha County Health and Human Services Center groundbreaking scheduled for Wednesday

An official groundbreaking for the new 137,000-square foot Waukesha County Health and Human Services Center takes place at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas, Waukesha County Chairman Jim Dwyer, the Department of Health and Human Services and Public Works Department will "break ground" on the East Lawn at 500 Riverview Ave. in Waukesha.

This groundbreaking takes place after a 2011 year that saw plenty of discussion about the impact the $36.7 million building would have on the 115-year-old nine-hole Moor Downs Golf Course.

A new maintenance building will also be built as part of the project.

In the end, the Waukesha Common Council voted 11-2 to rezone five acres to accommodate the building last year.

Since last fall and during construction, there have been a few changes to Moor Downs. The tee markers for the fifth hole have been changed from a 329-yard par 4 to a 148-yard par 3.

Hole No. 6 has also been significantly shorter moving from a 379-yard par 4 to a 214-yarder.

Finally, the seventh hole's tee markers were moved slightly to the north at 127 yards compared to its previous mark of 129 yards.

The changes to the sixth and seventh holes are temporary while the layout of the fifth hole will be changed permanently.

After the new Health and Human Services building is built, the back tee will be moved from 329 yards to 310, while the front will go from 313 to 230.
