Selection on city administrator search firm will wait a couple more days

The Human Resources Committee intended on selecting a search firm for Waukesha’s next city administrator on Saturday when it met with the final three national firms at City Hall.

But that decision was put on hold due to one of the firms not being able to make it to the interview.

Ald. Joan Francoeur said Voorhees Associates, based out of Illinois, could not attend its 12:30 p.m. interview due to an illness.

As a result, the HR Committee will instead meet with Voorhees Associates at the regularly-scheduled HR Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 207 at City Hall, 201 Delafield St.

Francoeur said the committee’s intention is still to make a decision on a firm by the end of Wednesday’s meeting and added the fact that they didn’t interview all three on Saturday isn’t going to slow down the process.

After choosing a firm, the committee will then make a recommendation to the mayor as well as to the Common Council at its meeting at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.

The committee met with the two other finalists – Colin Baenziger & Associates (Florida) and Slavin Management Consultants (Georgia) – on Saturday. The HR Committee started with seven national firms when the interview process began.

City officials said it could cost the city anywhere between $15,000 and $20,000 to pay for a national search firm.

Community Development Director Steve Crandell has served as the interim city administrator since its former administrator, Lori Luther, resigned to take a job as the Peoria County (Ill.) administrator in August 2011.

Other news: The Finance Committee meeting that was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday has been canceled.
