Waukesha - Investigators at the scene of a Thursday morning bus and SUV crash at Highway I and 164, which injured several people and sent a Waukesha West High School student and an adult to Waukesha Memorial Hospital, said the bus driver ran a red light, according to Waukesha County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Pederson.

Eight people were evaluated at the scene by emergency medical personnel, but only a female student and a female driving the SUV had injuries serious enough, but which were not life-threatening, for transport, he said.

Pederson said the bus fishtailed after the crash and then collided with two other cars that were stopped for the traffic light. The speed limits are 55 mph on Highway 164 and 45 mph on Highway I, or Lawnsdale Road.

Dairyland Bus Co., for whom the bus driver worked, had another bus on scene shortly after the 7 a.m. accident to continue the bus route.

She has spent the last half of her life in Waukesha County, where she and her husband raised two sons. Though she has a fondness for life in Waukesha, she eagerly partakes in the culture of the big city to the east and the recreation of the forests to the west. With sons in the arts, she has a special fondness for symphonic music concerts and art museums. She finds peace in a good book at a Northwoods getaway weekend, adventure in family visits to the east and west coasts, and satisfaction in a column well-written that reaches readers.
