Plan Commission meets tonight to discuss Gibson locations

Published on: 2/8/2012

The review process for the proposed locations of the Gibson Les Paul guitar sculptures continues tonight.

Two days after Waukesha's Public Art Committee unanimously approved the 13 locations the Waukesha Gibson GuitarTown steering committee selected, the Plan Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to go over them as well.

Following tonight's meeting, the locations will then go before the Board of Public Works on Thursday. That meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Both Thursday's meeting and tonight's meeting are at City Hall (201 Delafield St.) with the Plan Commission, which will be televised on Channel 25, taking place inside the City Hall Council Chambers and the Board of Public Works taking place in Room 207.

This project is just about a month old, but many developments have occurred in the last couple weeks as the 10-foot tall guitars have arrived in Waukesha and five guitars have been added to the project.

Artists for the project will be selected by steering committee member and downtown art gallery owner Lynn Gaffey in the next couple weeks.

Waukesha is joining cities such as Los Angeles, Nashville, Tenn., London, England, and Austin, Texas, as Gibson GuitarTown cities.
