Waukesha - A man Waukesha police were searching for after a standoff outside his Waukesha residence on Tuesday turned himself in to a Waukesha County sheriff's deputy on Thursday morning, police said.

Anthony C. Gonzales, 52, is being held on a felony warrant, Waukesha police said.

A five-hour standoff outside his home ended Tuesday evening after police learned that Gonzales, who had been suspected of holing himself up in the residence, had actually fled before officers arrived.

Waukesha police had responded to a residence near S. East and Laflin avenues at 2:53 p.m. Tuesday after a woman reported that Gonzales, her boyfriend, had recently been released from prison and could be suicidal. The woman left the home before police arrived. Officers evacuated residents in two other apartments in the three-unit residence.

Police said Gonzales has a history of assaults.
